The New Color: Gen Z Yellow

We’ve all heard of the overwhelmingly popular shade of ‘Millenial Pink’. The trend has appeared everywhere, from clothing, home decor, wall paint, to even toilet seat lids. The color gained popularity a few years ago, social media outlets such as Instagram and Tumblr playing a large part to its aesthetic influence.

Now, there’s a new generational color in demand: Gen Z Yellow

Marketers have already caught on to the power behind these generational color trends, so if you search for the color on google or Pinterest, you’ll get thousands of results (in reality, it’s probably a whole lot more than that).

With Spring just on the horizon, we’re actually loving this bright and cheerful pop of color! Maybe it’s a result of the PNW spending the last 4 months or so in the cold, but we’re seeing yellow more and more in homes we tour, home decor sites, and interior design blogs. Yellow is a great accent color in a home, it adds a ‘pop’ without being too harsh (as long as you stick to the rule of thumb “a little goes a long way”).

But before you go painting an entire room in the sunny shade, remember that the color looks best in rooms with lots of natural light. That can be hard to accomplish year-round in the Seattle area, so we recommend using the yellow as an accent color in your wallpaper + decor. Mixing yellow hues with white makes it easy to incorporate other colors throughout the season (like the Pantone Color of the Year 2019: Living Coral). Add some fresh flowers + greenery to the room to complete the look!

We have to stay on top of these trends because it makes a huge impact in the world of home staging. Not every home we list begins as a blank canvas – all white, black finishes, neutral decor. A lot of times we have to evaluate a home and it’s custom finishes, then choose our color palette for staging decor based on that.
